“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” – Isaiah 5:20.

What could be more important to us than our children and their training? Are you aware that at this very moment there is a battle going on for the minds and hearts of your children? There is currently a concerted effort in Alberta to eliminate educational choice. It appears that the Minister of Education is desiring to limit, perhaps even abolish, all private, religious, and home schools in our province. You may be saying to yourself, “my children are in a public or separate school and so this doesn’t concern me.” Or, “I’m beyond the age of parenting, and so why should I care?” Well, I’m afraid the concerns go well beyond what you have been led to believe.

While we thank God for a democratic country, we must remember that our responsibility does not end at the ballot box. Our Minister of Education and those surrounding him have gone beyond the boundaries of their mandate and have broken faith with parents. We recently became aware of practices that indicate that our children are being indoctrinated with unrestrained tutoring in a variety of deviant sexual expressions. How has this happened? How can this subversive activity be happening to trusting children and families in our province? Without going into the details of what these issues are, this letter is intended to challenge to you to GET EDUCATED on the education of your children. Here are a few things you can do to be informed.

1. Subscribe to “Parents for Choice” in Education (www.parentchoice.ca) and support them. They are a sincere group of parents and educators who are keeping up-to-date on all that is happening in the educational arena in Alberta. They are campaigning for the educational choice for parents and students. They are a respectable voice for parents regarding this critical issue. Join in petitions and/or writing campaigns.

2. Educate yourself as to what is happening in classrooms and board rooms of school trustees. It is important that you have the correct information before you write letters or personally engage with educators. Parents for Choice in Edmonton is scrupulous in gathering the information you need.

3. Contact your MLA and the Minister of Education. Ask him/her to describe the government’s current agenda in education. Ask how and why our government can assume that it was given the role of a social engineer. Ask how educators will handle a values war which will place them between parents and children.

4. Get involved in your children’s school. You can no longer assume that your school is reflecting your values. Attend every parent-teacher interview. Join your school’s association.

5. Pray for a spiritual revolution for our province and nation. Attend morning prayer (Monday to Thursday, 9:00am to 10:00am) at our church office (10219-100 Ave, Morinville). Pray with your family and your church family.

While being forthright with your concerns, remember to shape your correspondence with individuals, educators, and governing leaders with grace and respect. Please don’t fly off the handle. It appears that even at the school level many educators are misinformed as to what is occurring at the governing level. The wise warning of Edmund Burke will put us to the test in the next moments of history, “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” May the opposite be said of us, that we uphold the good and shine the light of God’s good intentions on the path of every precious child in this province.

May His grace and peace be upon Alberta,

Greg Fraser
